Hi all, I am looking for recommendations for a job I would like done on a Mauser 98 sporter. I would like the rear action screw made blind and the tang slimmed down. Like in these pictures: http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/photo/1041439713028237237QamLQL Thanks for any help in advance!

I'l bet that tang is about as thinned down as is safe to go right now...etting almost rid of the slot at the very rear is certainly not recommended for anything that might bite back...sooner or later, the cocking piece will fail to find the groove and will climb on top of the tang resulting in a real traffic jam. That's why the groove is there in the first place. The probem can be minimized by making a notch in the rear of the bolt for the cocking piece (firing pin nut) nose to rest in,,,something like you see on a Rem 700

Wow! Duane thanks for your knowledgeable reply. It makes complete sence. Paul Mauser was ontop of things when he designed the 98.
