Can any of you gentlemen tell me whether or not barrels are interchangeable between Remington Models 742 and 74 (with proper headspace confirmation of course)? Jerry/AK Smile...God loves you! | ||

Jerry, I've been looking into it since I asked this morning. The main difference between the rem 742 and the 4/74/7400 is that Remington had used an "interrupted thread" design for the locking lugs on the 742. this design used 12 small lugs, but they went to a three lug arraingment (eventually copied for the Remington 710) on the later 4/74/7400 So if I swap the bolt with the barrel it should interchange. The only issue is the price of a bolt Mabey it'd be easier to track down a 35Whelen barrel for a 7400... AllanD If I provoke you into thinking then I've done my good deed for the day!
