I saw one of these for sale in about 1987 in Anchorage, Alaska. It looked and felt great, though I have never known anyone who actually put one of these to use.
I am posting here to say thanks for confirming that I wasn't imagining things. The one I saw was a 470 NE and must have been made on a 20 guage action. Maybe 12?
Obviously these conversions were done using the Browning action as a monoblock formed by cutting the shotgun barrels off at the end of the heavy chamber portion. Then rifle barrels were fitted into this monoblock with near seamless precision, from the breech or chamber end to where they blended with the outer surface at the end of the monoblock.
Then, of course one would need a new forend and buttstock to match.
I presume this is the method Todd E is talking about on the other thread that is getting unnecessarily cluttered. Seems like a common method in the early stages of the double builder.
Look out Butch Searcy, Todd E may be gearing up, and Dennis Olson is already undercutting your price with 600 NE's built on 10 guage shotguns! This per 500grains. Of course quality is another factor as yet unknown.
That is precisely what I was invisioning. Robgunbuilder has advised me that this may be MUCH BIGGER than I had figured though. My wife saw his post and informed me that would be a great winter of '02/'03 project to keep in the shop and out of her hair.

Good luck and good shooting
Didnt look exactly cheap :-))
