i saw a demonstration of this stuff at a gun show in Tulsa recently. it sure does shine up a barrel. my concern is that with its polishing action, is it so abrasive that it is actually damaging the bore?

Bill, I would be careful about using the stuff in the bore of a good rifle. I use JB in my rifles bores, as I am not a skilled gunsmith I feel the less potent stuff will keep me out of trouble.

I use far more Flitz than JB.

Works great, and I don't think it is agressive enough to do any damage.

I see no reason to use either JB or Flitz except on rare ocassions such as a long abused bore...Regular cleaning salts work just fine..You do not have to clean a bore spotless and remove every vestage of copper, you gain absolutly nothing by that....

I recently used Flitz to clean 50 years of copper racing stripes out of a M99 Savage. The stuff worked great. But I only use Flitz if nothing else I have on hand works. My other rifle gets a light Sweets treatment about every 50 rounds or so and that seems to keep the copper racing stripes to a minimun.
Enough cleaning is a good thing. Too much cleaning can be a bad thing.
