jeffeossoproduct review fajen mauser plastic stock
Fajen Stock Mauser 98 F34 Barrel Channel Synthetic Phantom Black
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=225012Dealer price is very atractive on this stock
received it...
First impressions..
functional, but aint pretty
closed grip
ugly cap
HARD pad (i think marlin and ruger BOTH rejected these as too hard)
POSITIVE tilt (not good for a hard kicker)
long forearm
checkering is what you expect on a plastic stock.. functional, but aint pretty
weight... little heavier than you expect with a plastic stock... nearly 3#..
LOP... ah, now that's weight.. with the grip so closed, and the tilt, the 13.5 rated (i'll measure once it's in the shop) FEELS much longer...
So, I'll stick the first 458 AR, with the 21" barrel, in it, shorten the forearm, swap pad and change tilt... changing the pad would be about a $50 shop charge, pad and install, so add that into the price if you aren't a DIY
we'll see

Rick RI believe that's the same stock that Sporter Express sells as a Corelite for $59.99
Sporter ExpressI had it on the the VZ-24 for a while till I could get the stock I wanted up to snuff.

jeffeossoLooks like it.. grip is a little long..
so, all of 20 mins to inlet for my barrel (parker hale 458 take off, redone for 458 AR) and the bottom is "generous"... like it was routed with a 3/4 tool...
took the rock, er pad (i think it was there to project the fiberglass!!) put a .400" spacer on it and an F990 pad, shaped those together...
will trim the forearm and bed tomorrow...
my biggest complaint is the bottom metal inletting.. it's CRAP.. i would rather remove plastic than add it.
oh, well... east texas ATV carbine here we come

Rick RI used the European birch stock from a prehistoric project on the .376

I also outfitted it with a Treebone Carving steel buttplate from Brownell's
Seems to have more give than that rock rubber thingee on the corelite.

Gringo CazadorJeffe,
I think it would look better if you cut it off behind the checkering

Tex21Let me know how the bedding comes out. I plan on switching triggers, stripping the Krylon paint job, and rebedding the Corelite my 30-06 wears after this deer season and I'd like some feedback on the overall utility of these before I invest another minute in that rifle.

snowcatJuse FWIW, one can trim these up substantially with a rasp and some time. I took alot of material off the sides of the forend making it much trimmer. The grip and tang area can be thinned and I even cut comp flutes in mine. The stock flexes quite a bit, a problem on the bench unless seriously floated. The bottom metal inletting is a mess. These are what they are...

jeffeossowell, I cut the spacer to insert into the hollow stockbutt and epoxied it in.... seems to be about a ZILLION times more stable... took all of 5 mins to cut, and 5 to glue... then bedded it with some (questionable? - it's a "chunky" lot) steel bed.... and shortened the forearm some...
i'll bondo a new tip in to fill the missing, shape the top of the grip, and bed the bottom, probably tomorrow....
then paint it and see.
Oh, on the f990 whiteline, i'll take a dremel cutoff disk and route that out... it'll be filled with bondo and painted, so it shouldn't show!!
again, a MEAN east texas grizzly (hogs) backup gun
and probably put a hurtin on some jugs!!

Granted, the stock isin't the best... and the barrel contour isn't all that pleasing...
but mosts AB barrels you hear of are moa or so... "crap" must be a subjective term

I just can't understand putting the time, effort, and money into building a rifle using components that you don't like? I mean, the whole purpose is to build a rifle to YOUR specs. So, why settle for less?
I suppose if you are into quantity over quality then the cheapest possible components might make sense, just not to me.

jeffeossoMe? I am just goofing around with a stock, at my nickle, to see what I can do with it, expand some of my skills, and try some new things... it was a couple bucks to play in the shop... heck, it was cheaper than a pattern blank, and in the end, if I throw it in the garbage, i've still learned something, on my own expense..
as for the AB barrels.. If midway can make a normally MOA barrel for 80bucks, paying more, OTHER THAN FOR LOOKS, for a low buck rifle is wasted efforts to me... as I tend to logically transpose $ and effort, as time is money.... besides, I had more guys ask for AB barrels installed than pacnor, and more pacnor than douglas... go figure. Different specs for different folks and purposes, i guess
Some folks don't care for AB barrels... good on em, some folks do.... good on em...
Me, I am playing with some "toys" in my shop, using some part I've got laying around, and trying something new...
a fun time, even if I throw it in the trash.
