Pac Nor for savage barrels

Hello,
I read in "The Accurate Rifle" That PacNor makes barrels that can be replaced onto a Savage action. They sell the wrench with the barrel and tell you what gauges to buy to get the installation correct. The article said that a barrel such as this could be on in 1/2 hour. With me, probably better make that a day.

Has anybody ever tried one of these?
I want to build my own rifle from a stripped Savage action, buy my own stock, do the bedding and trigger. Just as a project and to learn more. I have access to a gunsmith if I get in trouble. Made sure of that.

Edit: And just for kicks, and because I want something a little different, I think this will be a wildcat or semi-wildcat. Just do not know which one, there are a lot to choose from.

If the barrels work as described, about the only thing that I would HAVE to outsource, is the trueing of the receiver.

Actually, Joe, the Savage has a "floating" bolt head, which often precludes the need for a truing job. Another source for 110/10 barrels is Sharp Shooter Supply. They also offer bolt heads in different diameters if you want to change from standard to mag, etc.

I know guys that just use a case as a chamber gauge, screw the pipe on and go. Seems to work well. HTH, Dutch.

Dutch,
Thank you for the reply and supply information. I am looking forward to this project, I really want to learn. Now, I just have to decide which of many available calibers I want to build. I already have

17 Rem
223
22-250
243
30-06

Kinda interested in predator hunting, something in a smaller caliber, but not something that everybody and their brother is using. I dont know if they could cut the chamber (the suppliers) but if they could, maybe a 20 Tactical?
