I'm more then a little surprised at this discussion.

To ME a $10,000 rifle is not about 1/4 MOA on a rock. $10,000 buys you wood that you can look at for hours. It buys you metal finished by a professional that doesn't leave tons of ugly tool marks like on a factory rifle. It buys you a rifle fitted to you and made exactly how you want. It showcases the true abilities of American craftsman and dulls the pain of being stuck in a world of "Made in China" crap from Walmart.

It speaks to an age of quality that used to exist before gun makers convinced the buying public that plastic stocks and stainless steel guns made on CNC machines with tool marks are better.

No I don't own any $10,000 rifles, but someday I will.

I don't think it's as much about money spent but perceived value for the money spent, at least for most people and regardless of income.

I've seen that gun shoot more than rocks, and all I did was help load 'em in the truck. Bill took care of the rest...but then his freezer is the one storing the prize also.

I shoot trap with a couple guys who have $20k shotguns. Other people whine that they can shoot just as good with there $250 870 Express. Yet these same people drive up in brand new trucks all the time, take expensive vacations, "invest" in muscle cars, etc.

While a $20k gun may not appreciate in value it won't loose much value either, in fact it very easilly could increase in value. What do you think the $20k gun will be worth in 10 years compared to a $30k truck? The truck will basically be worthless while the gun will still be +/- $20k.

My father told me in the 1960s that a guy should drag his new gun behind the car until scratched.

Then he could concentrate on hunting and not his gun.
