I just picked up a new Classic in 7-08 and it has the 2 position safety. Is there any real benefit to retrofitting it to a 3 position safety by the factory or should I leave well enough alone?

Kimber charges, IIRC, $75 to replace the two-position with a three-position safety, plus shipping, so that's one major disadvantage.

The three-position safety allows the rifle to be carried an additional position - full-back with the bolt locked in place - i.e., it won't fall out in the woods.

Whether it makes sense for your use is up to you.

Thanks for the info..75 is not to bad ..I hope I can just send them the bolt and not the complete gun.
