I ordered a barreld action from Montana. I inquired if they used the "new" throat and they said they would check. They obtained the current spec from SAAMI, compared it to their reamer and said there was no significant difference so theirs must be the newest version. They were very cooperative. Am I reasonably safe to expect that I will get the new throat? .............................................

From what? They said there was no significant difference between the SAAMI specs and their reamer so you may assume from that, that it will be safe for the intended purpose.

Oldcoyote, Surely they are capable of being a bit more precisely confirmatory. Ask them what the dimensions are for the throat, that is the only place the great new 2001 chamber differs from the sloppy old 1940's version. What you want: parallel-sided freebore length: 0.3700" parallel-sided freebore diameter: 0.3755" leade angle: 1.5 degrees Ask them to read those three dimensions to you from their reamer specs, and see if they match the above. If they get the answers right, you are safe.
