I just picked up a Beretta Mato .30-06 new in the box from a good friend. Upon looking the rifle over, it appears that the action used on this rifle best resembles a Dakota 76 style action. I called a local Beretta distributor who was unsure what type of action was actually used on this particular rifle. Can anyone provide me with information on this rifle or the action. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The first Beretta Mato's were actually made by Dakota. They designed the action. The last Mato's were made by Beretta at their plant back east. I was told by a guy at the Beretta Gallery in Dallas last week that Beretta is discontinuing the Mato. I saw a guy at the SCI show selling syn stocked Mato's for around 6-700... The action is a control round feed with a 3 position Winchester style swing safety. It has a claw extractor. Its loosely based on the Mauser being a claw extrator... I believe they are round actions, like the Dakota 97. They are cheaper to produce then flat bottom actions. The beretta place was selling their last Mato for about 1500 I think... I looked at the gun and I didnt think the stock inletting was very good. The swing swivel cutouts were pretty sloppy as was the barrel chanel. Obviously not made at their Italian plants....
