I have a donor action pre-64 that I would like turn into a weather proof .375 H&H suitable for Alaskan conditions, but still with a wood stock. Yes, I know that generations of Alaskans hunted just fine by proper oiling/sealing stocks, but I am paranoid about warpage, point of impact shifts, etc. Even if the odds are remote, I'd rather not have to worry about it. Accurate Innovations is one obvious solution, but they are getting a lot more expensive and I'd prefer to have a bit more flexibility in stock design for the price. I like the concept of having a floated barrel in a solid bedding block though, as it seems like POI should stay the same even if the wood warps a bit. 1. Are there any companies offering bedding blocks for pre-64 M70's that can just be installed in the wood stock of my choosing? It looks like some companies make bedding blocks for Remington 700's that can just be installed into practically any stock. http://www.midwayusa.com/produ...ine-cut-out-aluminum I can't seem to find anything comparable for Model 70's, however. Any suggestions? 2. Would it be feasible to find a gunsmith or machine shop to custom machine an appropriate bedding block that could then be installed in a wood stock? Or would this be cost prohibitive?

If you really want weather proof, get a synthetic stock. Or laminated wood is the best of both worlds. . No one makes bedding blocks on a production basis for pre 64 M70s; no demand. Of course it could be machined out on a one off basis if you are willing to pay.
