Looking to refinish the stock on a Remington 241. How do you remove the butt stock? Looks like the magazine tube may be threaded into the rear of the receiver. Is this the case?

Yes, the mag tube unscrews from the receiver. Be careful as the tubes are quite thin with very fine threads ane are often broken when forced.

What Toomany Tools said. You'll need some kind of spanner wrench to fit the two slots on either side of the tube (looking at it from the rear of the stock with the magazine spring tube removed). I took the Model 24 given to me by my Grandfather apart (about 45 years ago) to refinish the gun and it seems like I ground one edge of a coin flat to use as a spanner, but don't hold my aging memory to that story.
