The rim is the same as the .585 Nyati room so no there wil not be much metal left. Robgunbuilder has the tricks to to do this right. Just ensure you have a good smith.

okay... read my lips... STOP!!!

the gibbs is the hardest choice to make work in a 602. Even teh jeffery is eaiser.

let me give you my advice.

1: sell the 602 (unless it has peep sights) and get a 550 in 416 rigby.

2: rebarrel to 500 asquare or 510 wells, both which use weatherby brass

3: enjoy the heck out of it, and brass that costs' 1/3 to 1/4.

i should be getting my 505 gibbs on cz550 action anytime now. I too, was worried about the lack of bolt rim, but in checking with the Searcy's, Rigby and the german 505's, all seem to use 0.700 dia. bolt. I guess there is not much stress there and the tradeoff of the jeffery with rebate rim and feeding, I went with the 505.

Jeffo your right in that the .500 A2 is THE practical way to go but it just does not have the ring to it that the .505 Gibbs has.

The other option is to order a Montana PH action and wait for a while and do the gibbs on that.

jeffoso, yes the 500A2 is the practical way to go ,but i have to agree with PC,and the gibbs is really what i want !the odious gun laws here, make it harder for us to chop and change between guns.PC ,how does your 585 feed ? i was going to get the same gunsmith that did Karls 585 to do the work.

Here's my 505 on the 602 action. Jim Wisner did the feed work and the extractor.

KOs,

my .585 feeds & ejects flawlessly, Bob De'Vries of Kudu Services does my work. I reckon he's first rate.

Go the gibbs Bertram Brass although soft is fine in the .585 as I really do not push the limits with that rouind anyway. If you can get Horneber brass well thats the ducks nuts.

Kos

Ray Price built the rifle as a display piece. He did the stock work and the barrel and quarter rib. He had started on the metal work when he came down with leukemia-sp?. He gave the rifle to me and I sent it to Jim Wisner. Jim installed his safety, extractor, and finished the metal work in regards to getting the rifle to feed. I am currently waiting for a banded front sight and banded sling swivel from Jim.

Here are a couple of more photos of the rifle.
