I am wanting to build a 6mm Cheapshot (6mm/223) and just found a Rem 788 in 223. The guy wants to sell it real bad.

How difficult is it to change the barrel? I've never heard of it happening on a 788.

Thanks

Mike

Standard rebarreling job on a 788. If you buy it, reccomend you try the 223 accuracy first before changing barrels. I was pleased with a 6mm/222 once. ned

Changing barrels on 788's is the same as on 700's. Probably one of the easiest barrels to change. - Dan

Thanks for the info.

I picked it up yesterday, It shot amazing 8" groups. I looked in the barrel and checked the crown. there doesn't appear to be ant rifling near the muzzle.

It appears this barrel has been cleaned to death!

The only problem with rebareling the 788 is that you need a special action wrench, due to its odd dia. and recoil lug.

Other than that it is just like rebarreling a M 700 Rem.
