I just wish it had a Mauser bolt release rather than a Sako style.

Heres a rifle built on one

1/...2/...3/

Just wisH I could get one that was Not drilled and tapped.
Certainly not the smoothest action I ever felt, but thats not something I complain about in the field, but rather back at camp when i have time to nitpick.
When it comes to less expensive rifles, my core concern is to make sure everything is square&true internally when she goes together and shoots straight.

Well, sounds pretty close for you if you just noted that one thing. That's not bad overall.

I am looking forward to posting pictures of mine after Jim Dubell gets done with it. Sako bolt release will be modified as per Jim's request as will be the bolt handle, floor plate release, and add a few custom bridges.

I like the Sako type bolt release, it's certainly better looking than the Winchester Classic one.

Max, we have seen this action from before it was even built. There was an initial offering here for the AR members at basically dealer price to get it off the ground. Nothing new here. Being called a sweet action, is new though with no apologies to VD. Rough finish and heavy has been mentioned a lot. It is a serviceable action for a good price.

As far as I know Montana Rifle company is the only company in the world that makes a left hand controlled round feed long (300 wby, 375,458 lott, etc) stainless action for under $2,500. Montana lists the action for $587.
Dakota might make a leftie stainless but not sure.

nothing new, just good luck getting one, these where supposed to be offered also as the action for the CZ model 3, which was a short action that CZ was labeling, it too flopped, I suspect do to lack of being able to produce the product, it all comes down to Price, quailty, service, pick any two

They showed me an action just like the one in the picture when I was there. I got to work it and pull the trigger etc.

Then my action came. It was so rough that I was concerned and so full of damage from some wheel that it was not repairable. I sent it back and it was replaced by another action without damage.

That action however was just as rough. It hurt my almost deaf ears just to work it. It had metal missing around the bolt lugs on the bolt. It seemed to be the way the casting was made.

I had it made up into a sporter but it did not shoot very well. That was a waste of money. I had the barrel pulled and at least I still have that. I had my smith sell it for me and I got $250 in credit and he got $300 from someone on the net who turned right around after seeing it and asked $315 on Gunbroker and only got a $285 bid.

I would not touch one with an eleven foot pole.

On the other hand if indeed your left handed and they make so odd size you want and your rich then go ahead.

Anyone who complains just about the bolt release does not have a clue about these actions.

Since then I discovered the Kimbers which are much better guns for me.

Jim asked to work it over and I agreed. If he sends any sketch I will pass them along, but he has great taste and I am leaving it up to him.

I do not have th horror stories about roughness or poor fit that others have had here on AR. Jim thought it would "clean-up" into a fine custom very nicely and I feel better about using it that the ol 1909 I had planned on.

Here's mine. It's a left handed stainless short action built in 6.5X284.

How long have I had it? It's serial number 000X

Cheers. Looking forward to seeing the sketches or photos of the finished rifle - which ever comes first Wink

I have three of these from the charter issue and I'm perfectly happy with them. They are what they are.
