Guys, Posted this in the medium bore forum then thought it might be more relevant here. Just picked up a ZG47 in 270 Winchester. Can anyone enlighten me regarding their history? I believe they pre-dated the ZKK series. Rifle is well used and will more than likely be refurbished if it shoots well and rebarreled/rechambered to 9.3x62 if it doesn't, but I want to keep it looking as original as possible. Anyone tell me what length and contour barrel the used in 9.3x62 in this model. Much appreciated... Con

The ZG-47 was made from 1947 until the early '60s. It is probably the best rifle for the term "modern Mauser." It is a true 98 pattern, with updated safety, trigger, bolt handle and scope rails. It left the factory with most of the typical 98 modifications already done. Your action deserves to be converted to a classic metric cartridge. The ZKK series were not really made by Brno. They were CZ's forerunner to the 550, just marketed under the Brno name.

ZG-47s were made from 1947-1964 although most were built between 1956-1962. About 20,000 were made at the Zbrojovka plant in Brno. The ZKKs which followed were built by CZ. Among other variations, they came in two barrel lengths (21.5" & 23.5"). The 9.3 barrel is the same contour and same open sight arrangement but slightly heavier. I've owned four 270s. The top 2 pics are of a 270 made in 1950 (sn 44); the bottom pic is a 270 carbine with high polish receiver and a custom stock:
