As the title says. Don't need the rest of it, not the barrel, not the wood, not the mag tube. I could use a front sight, pinned typed. Condition immaterial within reason. Would like not to have to replace all the screws. Might be easier just buy a complete shooter rifle.

The price of a pre 64 "beater" lever action, no matter how poor, never ceases to amaze me. They made 2.7 million of them and they were as basic as they come, many with a "gumwood" stock. I think this firearm, and the Rem 870, are the two most prolific firearms ever made. So yes I have looked in all the normal places and continue to do so. But something about throwing half the gun away irks me. I know that feeling but have found over the years that a complete rifle, especially an UGLY one can usually be had for substantially less than the price of an equally ugly action. Strange but true. I got my beater stashed so I can make it into a .25-35. I've hear so many tales from Ray, that I just have to have one someday. Aut vincere aut mori

Just get a post 64 one. after they went back to solid carriers instead of the stamped ones.

This is going to be a takedown trapper in 25-35. Have the wood, I think the post 64 action inletting is different than the pre 64, in the tang area. You are thinking of pre-war. Post war, pre 64 and post 64 tangs are the same. So it depends on what era your stock is from. I have a rack full of pre and post war 94s and one 1969 one, and I just swapped one to make sure I remembered right. (never in doubt) I built a 405 (2.2 inch) TD on a 94 once; worked fine. Here are the three variations; top is pre war, and is .875 wide. Middle is a flat band, 1.030 wide, and bottom is a 1969, 1.030 wide.

Good info. I have always wondered about that. Thanks. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

What sn did they go to a milled follower on the post 64? I don't want the "Angle Eject" action. Russ Gould - Whitworth Arms LLC BigfiveHQ.com, Large Calibers and African Safaris Doublegunhq.com, Fine English, American and German Double Rifles and Shotguns VH2Q.com, Varmint Rifles and Gear

Way before that. Easy to tell; open the action and if you see stamped lifter, try to get one with solid metal lifter. Not that the stamped ones don't work; just look bad. Definitely don't get an angle eject. The bottom one in the picture is a 44 mag made in about 1969 or so; it has a stamped lifter. I take it you have the late butt stock.

Nope I have prewar buttstock but I think the inletting can be opened up. Or if I get a later action with a decent buttstock, I can always sell the (new) prewar buttstock I have on fleabay. Right; the pre war tangs are actually inletted whereas the later ones just sit on the wood, for the first 1.5 inches.

Early 90's they went back to milled receiver and internals. For the first few years they weren't angle eject. They also had better blueing than ANY of of the earlier 94's. I would have to dig up my copy of Renneberg's book on the model 94 to get the exact dates. Serial number 3,400,000. Late 60s. Look for the plastic buttplate instead of the steel one. That is when they went back to all solid guts. The stamped lifters tended to rattle and sound cheap.
