Large size barrel band
I need a larger than normal barrel band for my 500 Jeffery rifle.

The ideal I.D. for the sling swivel (barrel band), for this particular stock is .917 inch.

The largest I can find at Brownell's is .890 inch (Talley brand).

Now, I realize that I can make do by keeping the band further out on the barrel, but I mocked that up, and it just didn't look right to my eye.

Anyone know of a source for a larger inside diameter barrel band sling swivel?

Thanks in advance,
Garrett

Have your gunsmith bore it out .020, and then get it red hot!

Use one of the Talley bands, and a ball peen hammer.

Use an old, smaller barrel and slowly size it up until it fits over your 500 J muzzle, then keep slowly sizing it back until it is where you want it. When you have it sized to fit where you want, clean up by draw filing. Just remember to size slowly with gentle taps, don't hit with the mid-point of the hammer face beyond the edge of the band to avoid tapering the edge, and work slowly around in a circle so you expand the band evenly. To get close to the sling boss, you can use a 1/4 or 3/8" x 2" piece of steel round stock with the edges smoothed, as a smaller 'hammer.'
