I am in the process of refinishing a rough 760 Rem that I recently acquired. I cannot loosen the action tube to remove the forearm. I have tried using a long phillips head screw driver in the takedown pin holes but the tube will not budge. Any suggestions?

put some liquid wrench on it,try again after letting it soak.It probably has never been off before, but be careful with putting to much pressure on the screwdriver. Tap it with a plastic hammer, you don,t want to mess up your tube. van

Hope fully the hole goes through the tube horizontally. Get a helper to hold the rifle for you then run a long 3/16 heat treated rod through it. I used the broken shank of a very long aircraft drill. Using one hand on each end of the the rod I was able get my tube to move so it would unscrew.
