I have a sporterized 98 Krag that has the rear military sight removed and I would like to plug these holes. I tried 8-40 but it grabs about 1/2 a thread and 8-32 only go in about a thread till it stops. Is this an odd size or I must have buggered threads. Thanks for the help. Bob

Try calling S&S Firearms...they carry these screws and they could probably tell you what size they are. (718) 497-1100. Short of that you can use Acra Glass to make a “mold†of the screw hole and check it yourself with a thread checker. That way you will guarantee that it is the proper size. Krag’s are notorious for using different size screws for the rear sights because they used so many different types throughout production.

Thanks Rick, shot em a email about the threads. They show three different sets of rear sight screws on their pars list. nice website also. I like your idea of the mold, just have to remember the release goop or I won't need plug screws Bob

That’s why I couldn’t get those damned things out! If I recall the different size screws they list for the Krag sights are for the lengths not the diameter or pitch.
