Are most all guns factory test fired before leaving factory?I know i have had some that were way off on the sights and had to replace front bead before i could even get on paper at 25yrds.I have had feeding problems and safety locking/sticking problems right out of the box also and have felt rifles triggers that were so heavy it was really a joke!I doesnt take to long to shoot a round and checkem does it?I know kimber and weatherby supplies targets with there rifles, who else?Thats a kinda quality control plus in itself isnt it?From a safety standpoint it looks like the industry standard would be required to have to shoot a rifle and record results for the public safety!I have read on here though were the rifle barrel and caliber was mismarked!Thats bad!Whats the worst right out of the box new rifle you ever bought as far as quality, problems and accuracy? What would be unacceptable accuracy, where the factory would take the rifle back?5 inches or something at 25yrds?I never heard this one before..are some barrels this bad?

There's been so much BS posted about this subject that the only post I'd ever believe is one that went something like this:...I personally work at remmchesuger and actually have witnessed the test firing of every single firearm they make.

I've read stories about a company selling a .44 Mag revolver with a .357 Mag barrel on it and also a story about a famous company that sends along the target as proof of it's shooting ability and the barrel had no hole in it.

It's not easy to believe these stories but some of the things that happen make it something we would like to believe.

I can't imagine a company wanting to ease the liability of the product by not firing a round for the proof of safety. After that I'd be very surprised that they test the sights or any other feature of the gun for correctness.

can't speak of all factories but about ten years ago i took a tour of smith and wesson. every one of the guns produced for sale was fired. the revolvers three times and the auto pistols one full magazine. they were shot down range with no regard to hitting anything in particular. if they functioned as designed they went in the rack to be boxed. they were not cleaned or anything, just checked for cosmetics and put in the blue box.

All rifles are proof-tested at the factory, but very few are actually targeted and fired for accuracy. The original pre-64 Model 70 was carefully test-fired and sighted-in at the factory, as was the Weatherby Mark V and Browning Safari. All of these were and are high-quality factory rifles and tend to shoot well out of the box.

The most inaccurate factory off-the-shelf rifles I've ever fired have been various Ruger 77s, plus a factory "Custom Shop" Model 70 Featherweight that was an honest minute-of-foot rifle and a true piece of junk with a pretty stock.

The most accurate 100%-original, out-of-the-box factory rifles I've ever had have pre-64 Model 70s, and a couple of post-64 push-feed M70s in .338 Win. and .270 Win. that were astounding tackdrivers.

Other superbly accurate off-the-shelf rifles have been two Remington 700s I owned. One was a BDL in 7mm Rem. Mag. that was an honest five-shot, half-inch rifle. The other was a .30-06 Classic. I'll never forget the morning I fired two five-shot groups back to back with it that measured .450" and .350" respectively with handloaded 180 gr. Hornady's, and I still have the targets of file for these rifles.

Recent-production 100%-original, untuned factory rifles I've tested that really blew me away were an incredibly accurate Model 700 in 7mm SAUM that produced half-inch five-shot groups with straight 160 gr. Nosler factory ammo, and a Savage "Police" in .308 Win. that turned out basically one-hole groups with Federal 168 gr. match ammo......
