Enough Barrel Shoulder?

After a lot of searching for a cheap, quality barrel to put on my BSA 12 (Martini Cadet) project, I've decided to install a shortened, newly manufactured barrel made for the Remington model 513T. This barrel has no taper and should be easy to work with on the lathe.

The major thread diameter for this rifle is .750" and the diameter of the 513T barrel is .810". Will the resulting .030" shoulder be wide enough without effecting accuracy? Thanks a lot - John

That leaves you only .015 per side. you can try it & see how it shoots. I might consider turning that .810 dia down to .750 for the length of the treads + another inch or so, whatever suites your taste & then turn a sleeve a bit longer than that extra length to that same diameter. Put the barrel in the freezer about a hour take it out heat up the sleeve with a tourch & quickly slip it on the cold barrel. Then you can adjust the shoulder accordingly. That sleeve ain't coming off! [Wink]
