Does a M70 in 416 or 375 require the magazine spring that has the “p” shaped bend in it? Or can any other factory M70 magazine spring that doesn’t have the bend work?

Seems like without the bend, the cartridges would have a little more room in the mag box.

Are there aftermarket springs out there that can expand capacity to 4 cartridges?

Old ones do not have that and I do not know why the new ones do. But even if you replace it, you won't get another cartridge on the box.

Thanks. So there are no after market magazine boxes, springs, and followers that can increase capacity to 4?

No. You need a drop box mag/floorplate.

Well you can get 4 down in the 375 if you replaced the Win OEM spring with a Mauser 98 spring. The tension of the spring can make a difference as does how the spring collapses. What I mean by that is as you load round after round into the magazine does the spring shift the follower forward / Rearward ? or effectively straight down ? You don't want follower drift so it drags on the front or rear of the mag box.

The Current long Model 70 box is as close as Winchester has come in many years of having an ideal mag box if you use the 300 or 375 H&H. With a decent 98 Spring you can get 4 in the magazine and have apprx. .100 plus spring compression with 4 rounds down.

416 Rem Not a chance ?

Having known and been friends with D'Arcy for a few decades I always s have to test his opinions

Now Phil testing this 4th round principle in Tia's 416 doesn't count.

My gunsmith in Alaska always put new weatherby magazine springs in my rem 700 in 416 rem mag rifles .The factory ones from Remington always failed .He said that was one of the strongest magazine springs made .He had to file some off to make it fit but they worked perfict !
