Which 3-p saftey to choose for a M98

I have a newer, 50-60s commercial Mauser, that has a original safety, which I am considering putting a 3-p safety on.

In my mind, the only problem with the newer Mausers, is that they don`t have a C-ring, but a H-ring. So the only saftey concern is, gas handeling.

What product would you choose considering gas handeling, but also well built!

Gentry or Dakota also work well and are usually more available, but I agree that Ed Lapour makes fine products.

I have an older Lapour, and it is excellent. I have fit newer NECG's and Dakota's, and prefer the NECG slightly, but the Dakota price is much lower, so I use them now.

I personally haven't used a Gentry, a friend I work with did, and it was a nightmare getting it fit and timed correctly. I've read here about both bad and good experiences with Gentry, most of the bad experiences have been really bad. For that reason I have avoided them because I don't want to be one of the bad experiences.

I use modified original bolt sleeves. How many primers do you intend to blow? That takes some planning to blow modern brass.

None have a bigger gas flange than the facrory shroud yours has.

Lapour's has the biggest. Wisner used to make one with a nice BIG flange. Not sure if Ed is still making that one too.

I've loaded 1000s of rounds for commercial 98s the majority being wildcats with limited or no load data. I can count on a couple fingers the number of primers I have blown. Flatten yes. Blow no. I had a case give out in front of the web on a MKX. Yes I felt a little gas nothing my shooting glasses didn't handle.

As usual just my $.02

I just put a customer supplied Gentry on for him today. It was a little sloppier fit to the bolt body than I would have wanted, but not bad to install.
