I would like to paint an artic white camo pattern onto a blank Savage synthetic stock that i'm
ordering. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions on how to do this? I think spray
paint and stencels would work best.

www.whamo-camo.com does this kind of stuff and will do it for you; they offer many different patterns and color schemes.

I cant help much but I would suggest quizzing a painter or paint store about it. It sounds like a lot of time to use the wrong kind of paint and have it peel off the synthetic surface in a month or two. [Wink]

Not to take the spotlight off this board, but there's a good "how-to" article on Predator Masters. Check it out here.

I spent 10 years in the automotive paint business and I'll give you a friendly warning......you WILL need a special plastic primer/adhesion promoter for your plastic stock.....anybody that tells you differently just doesn't know much about painting plastics.

Take the stock to an automotive paint store and they should be able to determine what kind of plastic you are working with and what type of adhesion promoter you need.

The article DesertRam linked to talks about painting a composite stock (think fiberglass), that is a completely different (easier) process than painting plastic......

strip it...
sand it
prime it with a plasticized primer...
paint it however you want...
several coats of low gloss clear

it will still chip, but shuoldn't peel, if you allow for like a day drying between major coats.
