Was wondering what the slimmest sensible barrel contour would be for a 308 Win barrel. Putting together one on a Mexican action. Probably have a full lenth stock. Something that has always been in the back of my head. Thanks

.550 #1 featherweight will work fine. If you're trying to impress anybody at the range it may take a lot of cool down between shoots, but for a light weight hunter it's a fine choice.

Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

you can go a lot thinner than .550. dropping it down to .475 or so is no problem

Think I will turn it down somewheres between .550 and .600. Like the barrel contours on my 2 FN sporters at .600. Thanks

I don't like to go beyond .100 per side and prefer .125-.135. That will still give you a slim barrel. I taper at .150 per foot which is a nice trim rapid taper barrel. JMHO!

That's my vote.....and I'm less down on the accuracy.....these barrels can be very accurate.

If you're serious about a mannlicher then I'd go with the #1 contour instead of the featherweight.
