inline firing pin, and a Farq. type rifle

I was curious how some current gunmakers are going about having an inline firing pin, along with a striker that pivots back behind the falling block. I am wanting to try building my own falling block rifle, dont want a striker mounted in the falling block itself but in the action behind it. And was trying to get away from the angling down to the back type firing pin. Looking thru patents and such, havent found any good way to do this. TIA

Ruger solved this by putting the hammer under the block pivoting upwards inside the block and hitting a swinging link; not the firing pin itself. . However, I think you are trying to solve a non problem, assuming you are using a side hammer action. What is the issue with an angled FP anyway? Winchester high wall is the best design. Straight FP. Lots of designs out there; Searcy has a very elegant one. Steve Earle. Many others. Do not copy a current product though.
Look at Henry's 1872 patents and Farquarson as well; they have several ideas for what you want to do. None of them is easy to make though.
