I recently purchased a new gun with a very dull oil finish wiht a lot of pores visible. My feeling is if it's used in any sort of wet weather it's going to ruin the stock. I'm looking for suggestions for filling the pores and getting a better oil gloss finish. Please keep in mind I have never done this before so any detailed suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

for what it's worth, lightly sand with 600 grit, clean with a damp "cotton" cloth, allow to dry over night, and polish with an old fashioned paste floor wax to the level of shine that you prefer. this is the treatment i used on a laminated stock and am well pleased. IF YOU'RE GONNA GET OLD,YOU BETTER BE TOUGH!! GETTIN' OLD AIN'T FOR SISSIES!!
