Does anybody have a recommendation for a place to order a safe from?..."curbside" delivery is fine. I just want a reputable dealer to order from... Not interested in the big box stores. Would like a dealer who specializes in safes.

I see a few online dealers with free deliver on certain brands...just want to make sure I'm dealer with a respectable place. Interested in Liberty, Amsec, Fort Knox...ect.

I don't know about dealer delivery but I highly recommend Liberty

My testimonial and pictures from my 2009 shop roof collapse is on the Liberty website.

I like sturdy safe. You get a lot more metal for your money. Their fire protection is debated (ceramic wool), but their toughness is not, they are serious when it comes to their metal thickness and construction.

I currently have a liberty Lincoln series 35 gun...I made the mistake of not getting a bigger one and I've officially run out of room.

I have no complaints with my current safe and would be more than happy to buy another one. The local Cabelas and Gander Mountains are a pain to deal with. They all seem to have to order what I want, so I thought I'd cut out the hassle and order it myself.

I recommend Champion Safe: Champion

I have two of their 60-gun models in my shop. Still isn't enough room sometimes but I make do.

Check with ACE Hardware and/or John Deere Tractor. John Deere sells Liberty safes under private label. You're likely better off buying one off the floor. Freight can cost $700 or more if you order a drop ship.

I'd recommend american security BF series. I think these guys are the manufacturer for a bunch of the other brands. The double wall filled safes seem to hold up the best in a fire. For delaying thieves, look for TL ratings. Basically you get what you pay for. A cheap metal box might keep children and smash-and-grab types out, but it won't do much for fire protection or stop anyone with a few tools. There's tons of info here:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6...in_first_post__.html

There are some things you can do to improve the situation. First, it should be bolted down. Keep papers at the bottom of the safe in high temperature plastic bags. Do not keep ammo in the safe, keep it in a locked cabinet elsewhere. If thieves see ammo they know what else to look for, but it takes up valuable real estate in a safe and you don't want it there in a fire either. A cheap safe can be improved fire-wise by covering the outside in several layers of gyp-board. A variety of little things like that.

I have a couple American safe I purchased through a local dealer, I have known him for many years. Safe is good but best thing is he delivered it to the room I wanted it in and when I moved he took it (and the refrigerator)to the new house.
Moving a safe without the proper tools is a good way to get hurt. Heym, for you curbside is OK but others may get in over their heads.

Agreed, I also bought my safe locally. While the price was somewhat higher, it also included delivery and installation. The guys doing the installation rolled the safe in with no damage to my house. All I had to do was show them where I wanted it set and step out of their way.

Factoring in the possibility of being incapacitated for a week or so with a strained back if I tried to do it myself, it seemed like the best deal.

I bought a Treadlock safe years ago (no longer made) and my wife didn't want me to get the biggest one. Then when we got the safe she wanted to put a lot of her stuff in there. Therefore, get a big safe as your wife, if you have one, will want to fill part with her stuff.

I still have the Treadlock safe and needed more room. This time, contrary to advice from my wife, I got a big Sturdy Safe which is great (except for the part of getting all 850 to 900 lbs. of it down the basement stairs on the last move). It was originally delivered by a company that knew how to move a safe and had the proper equipment so no complaints on delivery to my door and basement.

Gun "safe"... still haven't ordered anything. Paralysis by analysis Cool

Size is probably the most important feature..I don't want to run out of room again. Its hard to balance size, Weight, security and price...

You may want to look at building a secure gun room / vault and buying a "safe" door.

Good point. You could probably pour concrete for less than it would cost to ship some of the big safes.

Call sturdy safe and talk to them. Sometimes they have a sale going. The guys I had move mine to a basement said it was like moving a real safe. That was after they called for more help.

I bought a Ft. Knox 6637 about 10 years ago. I love the safe, but there are a few things I would have done differently. First, I would have gotten a larger size. The cost difference isn't that much, and my safe wouldn't be as cramped as it is now.

Second, I wouldn't have gotten the stainless steel liner. It adds to the security, but it also adds to the weight of my safe, which is 1750 lbs. Most moving tools aren't rated for that much weight, so it turns into a major production if I want to move the safe from one side of the room to another. I'd keep the safe under 1500 lbs, so most normal moving tools could be used. I bolt the safe to the floor, so no burglar is going to tip it over anyway. Plus, if a highly sophisticated burglar wants to get into my safe, the added liner will only slow him down. In other words, I think I went overboard with the liner and now the safe is a beast to move.

I never intend on selling my safe, but I've seen that Ft. Knox safes hold their value comparatively well over time. The only other safe I came close to buying was Liberty. I might have chosen Liberty instead, but my local dealer wasn't as responsive as the Ft. Knox dealer, so that is the route I chose.

I have a secure gun room with sixteen feet high 12" block walls and poured cores with full length rebar in every void, a concrete slab floor and a roof made of pre-stressed concrete planks grouted together, plus a Mosler vault door.

Despite this, a few years ago I had a termite problem. The little buggers were coming through a crack in the concrete slab and the exterminators had to drill through the slab to insert their tools and kill them. I'm just glad they emerged in the middle of the floor and not under one of the gun cases!

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Pentagon safes. They aren't available where I live, but it's what I would get.

Liberty website is informative about their products. They have dealers who deliver using proper equipment. A family member bought a Liberty on sale at a chain sporting goods store and self delivered, saving a lot of money.
I believe Liberty makes safes for another label also.

If you have a fairly valuable collection, I'd buy a TL30 rated safe:
