I want to change the length of pull and the recoil pad on my Zastava 458 Win Mag.

Currently it has a 14.25" LOP with the .75" thick black hockey puck pad that's on it now.

I was thinking of using a 1" thick Pachmayr Decelerator, Old English, Leather look pad.

I'm going to cut 3/4" off the butt to make the final length of pull 13.75" just like my Win 70 (375 H&H).

Pachmayr offers these pads in black, brown and red and I kind of like the thought of a red pad.

Would this look out of place on rifle like this?

Here's the style but in brown:

Red pad would look great. I just put a new pad on my Whitworth - same pad design that you show here. I used brown since it matched the factory pad.

Be aware, I've been unable to find Pachmayr red pads in large, so make sure a medium will work. NECG makes large red pads, but they are out right now.

For Pachmayr pads, Amazon has the best prices and shipping.

Thanks guys, I measured the existing pad and the medium will fit that. Since I'm cutting the stock back it should give me more room for error.

Now I have to make a tapered wedge to use as a sanding rest to get the toe line correct.

I have alway eyeballed the grinding, once they are screwed on. And I avoid like the plague, fitting a pad to a stock on which the finish has to remain.

Good advice, I'm going to shave the roll over off of the comb so I'll have to refinish it anyway.
