Replacing a Taurus Model 63 stock

I have found a good looking piece of Black Walnut to replace the stock on my model 63 Taurus. My question is who to do the work? Since the magazine feed on the 63 is through the butt stock, it is more than just duplication and sanding.

As always your input is appreciated!

I don't know of a source to help you but.......... you are endeavoring to invest $400+ on a $300 rifle that will be worth $350 when you are done.

Why not just spend $550 on a very nice M-63 Winchester and watch it appreciate and enjoy better workmanship and function as well?

Nomo,
Practicallity has nothing to do with this. I totally agree with your facts!

As it turns out, I was reminded that, I own a full blank taking a nap over at Tip Burn's place. I'm not going to tell you what I almost paid for a 2 piece Burl blank over at Dustin Mounts. It was stock porn!

I'll probably get John Valicek, who made the stock for my 404 Jefferies to do the work.

Rusty,

Now you got me thinking about the ho-hum stock on my Taurus 63. That rifle is so reliable I don't ever want to sell it, but, it could use a stock transplant.

Love seeing yours when it's complete...

Good luck with the new stock!

Don

DMB,
I still have my original M63 Winchester. It's like hugging an old girl friend. . .It knows just what to do! I really like the Taurus which is a faithful reproduction. Both are wonderful shooters!

Do you know where there is a orginal very nice Winchester M-63 for $550? I have 3 in the safe now, but for that price I would add a 4th.

One can find deals on them occasionally. I have a 90% 63 in the safe presently that I bought at $450. A 90% grooved M-61 nabbed a few weeks ago for $450 as well.
