Wow....a surprise

vapodogWow....a surprise
I just aquired two VZ-24 original milsurp rifles in (of all things) 7 X 57.
It's my plan to use them "as is" except for sporterizing. Maintain the original stock and barrel but spruce them up as much as possible....."truck guns" so to speak....
I assumed the chambers would require setting back and recutting.....what a surprise....the "go gage" would not enter either of these chambers.....without measuring, I'm guessing about .005 short!
Should I cut them deeper?...I do have a reamer but don't want to mess with something that has worked for 85 years!

SR4759I think somewhere along the way SAAMI gauges got out of sync with the original 7x57 standards.
If European ammo chambers leave them alone.

First off Kudos on the find. It's not every day U run into BRNO's like you found.
Next, I would try some loaded ammo to see if the fits the chamber. If so, I leave them as it.
I do LOVE Brono rifles and VZ24 actions.

No VZ/24 were ever issued in 7x57 to my knowledge. Unless for some obscure South American contract. If they are truly original you would do well to sell them to a collector instead of altering them.
Vapo can you post some closeup photos?

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

airgun1There are plenty of VZ-24's originally in 7 x 57 and yes they are from South America. These were imported years ago, back in Springfield Sporter's heyday.

One of them is still untouched and all original...

Actually this one comes from Southern Ohio Gun
They are a bit pitted but seems to make a great truck gun!
