I have a FN Deluxe made in the 50's (I think) and it only seems to group the heavier grain bullets well ie 180gr. Anyone know what rate of twist was used in rifling these guns? For that matter is there any information published on the history of these guns?

are we talking about a "Higgens" 30-06? /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Winston Churchill

vapodog It is an FN and is so marked on the top of the receiver. Not the Higgins variation. fla3006 Thanks for the reference source, I've never ran across that book but I will soon. Paul B If you are correct on the 1 in 10" twist then it makes sense why this gun groups the heavier bullets better. It is interesting to note the 1 in 12" twist on the Husquvarna. I have a 51L that I have not had the oppertunity to scope and group yet. Looks like the 150 to 165gr is where I will start. Thanks for all the responses.

oops, just noticed the 51-L listed in the 1/10" list. Also just found the deHaas book on Amazon for $9.50.
