I’m trying to change the recoil pad on a Japanese wood-stocked Weatherby Mark V. I’ve done it in the past, but I can’t remember how I got the old pad off. So far I’ve pulled the screws out and tried pulling and twisting on the old pad, but it looks like the stock finish continues from the wood onto the first layer of the plastic on the pad. Does that finish need to be cut with a razor blade? Is the pad also glued to the wood? Do I just need to get rougher with it? I don’t remember it being that hard to pull off on the last one I did. Thanks, Kyler

When I get one that won't come off after removing the screws, I figure that it's better to muck up the pad that I'm removing than damage the stock trying to save the pad. I cut as much of the pad off as I can with the band saw. Then I sand the rest of it off with the belt sander. Problem solved. Mark Pursell
