Wisner spring for extra round?

I ordered and installed one of Jim Wisner's springs in my .375H&H model 70. I can still only fit three rounds in the mag. The fourth almost fits, but not quite.

Am I just not pushing hard enough? Or does the spring only allow an extra round on 30-06 sized cartridges?

On my M70 I can fit 4 down but the first round doesn't feed, (It's held too tightly under the rail). I was going to order a replacement spring from Wisner's also to fix this. Did the new spring make any difference at all to your gun?

Fjold,

Weird. Before, I was loading/unloading with neck-sized rounds I'd shot through my Ruger RSM .375. Couldn't fit 4 cartridges in with either spring (original or Wisner's).

I just grabbed a box of factory rounds. 4 wouldn't feed with the factory spring BUT would fit and feed with the Wisner spring. Tight. Couldn't push down the top round enough to close on an empty chamber or push a fifth round into the chamber and have the extractor snap over, but the spring's brand new.

I put one of those springs in a friends 7mm rem mag (model 70) and it took four easily. I imagine a few things have to work out properly to make it work.

What takes more than 3 rounds of 375 H&H to kill it?

Put your nose to the grindstone, your belly to the ground, and your shoulder to the wheel. Now try to work in that position!

It's like having 300 horsepower in the car. You only need about 150 to get on the freeway and to pass safely. But if you get caught between two exiting semi's or something and you need to kick it in the ass, it better have something there in reserve.

So, what you're saying is that if more than 4 (3 in the mag and 1 up the spout) cape buffs charge at once you would need the 5 rounds?
I need my 300 hp just for the sheer fun of going fast, but, as the owner of a 375H&H I can't imagine wanting to shoot one rapid fire (except in the above mentioned circumstance, of course).

jlongo,

Is there a specific reason you WOULDN'T want to be able to have an extra round for the grand cost of $8?
