I'm planning on putting a new NECG front sight (H&H flip up night sight) on my safari express. I measured the barrel diameter at the muzzle and it is 0.726". The barrel band NECG sight comes in diameters of .709" or 0.748". Is it reasonable for a gunsmith to install one of these sights without cutting the barrel, or will I have to get the screw on sight? Any help would be appreciated. "The atomic bomb made the prospect of future war unendurable. It has led us up those last few steps to the mountain pass; and beyond there is a different country." - J. You might give NECG a call & see if they can help you out. Doug Humbarger NRA Life member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club 72'73. Yankee Station Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo. | |||

And here's what NECG said: Thank you for your inquiry. If your muzzle measures .726" then we would suggest fitting a .709" model to the barrel by stretching the band up to the diameter needed to fit your Model 70. This is done on another barrel of similar dimensions and hitting the band with a polished ball peen hammer and then polishing and bluing the sight.
