I'm thinking about getting a stainless .30-06 for inclimate weather. Which would be a better choice in stainless? Rem. 700, Win M70 Classic or Ruger M77 II? (I would prefer a 24" barrel, if possible.)
I'll second the Winchester Classic Stainless recommendation... I saw a used one with a 3x9 Matte Leupold on it for 500. I was tempted but I have the .308 model.
You can keep the factory stock for beating on or swap it out for a Rimrock or the like. 22 or 24 for hunting with .30-06 makes little difference...

Oops. I saw an article a while back that featured the Classic Stainless .375. I believe it was an article by Clair Reese. I guess I just got my wires crossed and assumed it was available in '06. Sorry! Wyo
Well, I ordered a Ruger M77 Stainless, with a laminated wood stock (black laminate). I actually looked at THREE Win M70s in stainless. What a treat. ALL THREE had rust on them. RUST. And the floorplates looked like they had been milled by a high school shop class. Disappointing.
So, I'll just live with the Ruger.
By the way, do those laminated stocks swell and warp?
