I was wondering which epoxy you use to glue your bases down. I was going to try 20 minute devcon unless someone says otherwise, this is for a winchester 30-06

Also which loc-tite do you use if any on the screws?

Black Max from Loctite. Not epoxy but a cyanoacrylate (super glue). Very strong bond and the black color blends very well. It is removable with the carefull application of heat (propane torch) to weaken the bond.

I use an epoxy similar to Devcon for bedding, etc. However, for bases, I think it's a bit too tough. I use JB Weld for bases (and base screws) and it's worked perfectly for everything up to 375 H&H with never a lose base. For ring screws I use regular blue locktite.

I use an epoxy glue which we call Araldite in Austalia. It sets about like hard nylon. I have it on the screws and bases. Mild heat releases it and a chemical called Episolve will rot the Araldite off. I think the basis of the chemical is tri chloro ethane or some similar name.

For scope rings, I fire a shot then retighten and do that a couple of times. They never come lose in fact on big rifles the problem is getting the screws undone.

Just a question of naivety, but is it really necessary to epoxy bases on a caliber like 30.06?

I've put a lot of scopes on in calibers like 308, .270, .06 and even 300 win mag as well as some of the short mags (300 and 270) without incident with several hundred rounds minimum through these rigs, some several thousand rounds.

I agree. I have never "glued" my bases down. I use alcohol to clean the holes and screws then red Locktite. I use nothing on the ring screws. Has worked fine for me on many rifles up to and including my 416 Rigby. Of course, I do not use any of the heavier or high magnification scopes which certainly helps.

Nope. But I once had to epoxy the receiver sight on a Winchester Model 71 that had been rebored & chambered for the .450 Alaskan....

I agree!! in perfect world!!
but unfortunately we live in a world where the bases are not a perfect fit, A friends Sauer was fitted with bases that you could slide a piece of paper under one corner and it wouldn't shoot worth a sh**.
we used a product called liquid metal and it shoots a lot better..
Araldite is good! but in hot weather it becomes soft! use hot water from a kettle to remove/loosen it...
