I need a Cartridge stop for a medium frame .44-40 Colt Lightning rifle 1886 production. I have searched many of the regular sources without success. If you have one for sale, please let me know. If you can make me one, e-mail me for details and to discuss price, If you can find me one before anyone else I'll pay a $25.00 thank you/bounty for your help.

Well I've checked all my books and the closest I can get to a cartridge stop is a "cartridge carrier". Could this be what you mean? I am not familiar with this rifle. Also, if it will help I can send you an exploded view, and parts list.

Call (403)-823-4561. He has 3 Lightnings, listed as parts guns. Perhaps he has what you need.

If he has it and I "win" the bounty, buy someone an NRA Membership.................

Part is called Cartridge stop by Colt and some others use a different designation of
something like magazine gate. You can see the part at, html:\www.coltparts.com/pt_ltg_mfr.html
it is part # 5

this part fits under the cartridge carrier and has a provision for the slide lock parts to attach to, a projection on the front that keeps additional cartridges from feeding out of the magazine tube and a pair of arms on the back that ride on the hammer pin and actuate it like the bolt is actuated on a SAA.

Unfortunately, in addition to being hard to find, this is also the part that apparently fails the most often, the arms break off.

I called and left a message, but I've struck out so many times, I am not hopeful.

Any help is appreciated.

Well partner, looks like Numrichs usually carries it, but it's sold out. BTW they call it a "magazine gate". I will keep an eye out for one but it looks like they either can't keep any in stock anywhere, or they can't get them. They said to check back in 30-60 days, and they might have some by then. www.Gunpartscorp.com

Good Luck
