Quote: Once in my very early life as a rifle nut, I bought a gun from Art. I knew very little of rifles at the time, and took a basically brand new custom product to Africa. Bad idea, I had extraction problems on that rifle, and Art did not want to know about it (by phone, not a lot he could do). Hmmm! Sent it back to him when I returned, and he supplied a different barrel with no further comment. Art may offer some "different" looking guns, but as far as I'm concerned, he stands by his products. - mike

This is all very curious to me as a target shooter. Pac-Nors are very popular among us that quickly shoot out barrels and this is the first I've heard of bad metallurgy from them. What IS startling is that in the past few months I have read many complaints about Krieger, Lilja and other top-rated makers having trouble with the quality of steel. Was there a bad batch at a mill they all buy from? Redial

redial, Kinda what I've been thinking, watching this thread here and over at 24hourcampfire.com. In the last year, I've observed some long and drawn out conversations where competitive shooters and gunsmiths have discussed problems w/ Krieger, LW, and now Pac-Nor. Dunno if it's a common supply problem, people just getting pickier and/or more vocal about stuff because of the Internet, or what. It does seem odd though. Monte

Many of he big name barrel makers use the same steels. I don't really know that there was a problem with the steel of the 7mm barrel in question here.

As far as I know, the customer and PAC-NOR made up on Tuesday. A refund was issued. I don't think there was any bad blood at PAC-NOR about it. And from the customers response on 24Hr, it seemed to be on somewhat good terms. They didn't call the customer a piece of *@!#. I have been on the phone with them Mon-Thurs about it. They where light hearted and jovial about it. It wasen't a "Well I'll show you". I have had very good experiences with PAC-NOR and their customer service. I agree with you about a company needing to serve the customer well. Customer is allways right. I agree. I have eaten jobs. I am somewhat sorry I entered this subject. I try to avoid polarity. Just as I signed off the 24Hr site, I am going to do the same here. I apologize for my attitude in this subject and any unfriendly debating that took place. This site has been educational, and fun at times. Merry Christmas to all, and best wishes to everyone.
