I think Helstone gunsmithing are what you are looking for. Don't know the address but they are srictly trade only.

Why not use Brownells though? The prices are right and delivery is fast, usually within ten days. The only problem is stuff that requires stupid bits of paper to export-import or possess. But those items are very few and usually it is just a matter of finding the right "job's worth" with the right rubber stamp.

Andrew375, I have been a Brownells customer (and still are)for many years, but they cannot ship stuff to Europe anymore.
I ordered: 1 die to cut 1/4-30 (P17) screws, 1 gauge no go for 416 Rigby and a bit of acralglas.
They confirmed my order and told me it was on his way to me.
After about 6 weeks they send me an e-mail advising me that they will refund me my money and they are sorry but can no longer send things to Europe. So I do not know whats going on.

By the way you dont know in which city Helstone is?
Thank you

Bongo

I cannot add anything to the above post.

As you are a German who is keen on Africa may I ask if you can recommend a Taxidermist in southern Germany (Munchen or south) or Austria Salzburg area, who would tan a Zebra skin for me?

Deerdogs, I have gotten a few Addresses for you.
First I would try: J.Bouten - e-mail:bouten@euronet.nl, in Neatherlands, then in Germany
there is Wolfgang Poller www.anzenkirchen.de,
or Manfred Erdeljan: www.tierpraeparation-erdeljan.de, Wolfgang Schenk: www.schenk-taxidermy.com. If you prefer Austria there is Kurt Kaser in Insbruck Fax 00 43 512 572967 and phone:570988

Bongo Thank you.

I went hunting with German and Austrian freinds earlier in the year and all our trophy have arrived and my friends house in the mountains south of Salzburg. I am debating whether to use a taxidermist in Germany or ship them to the UK and use a taxidermist here. However I am advised that there is no one who can do a good job at tanning zebra skins in the UK.

Thanks again.

no-one in the UK that can do the job.
thats a sweeping statement!
I know a professional hunter from S.A who now resides here in the U.K. He is quite capable of curing or mounting whatever trophy you have!
I've seen this guys work, and he's no dummy.
e-mail me if you want his number.

Deerdogs, do yourself a favor and contact this guy in Venlo, or wait a few months and come to Wild und Hund in Dortmund in 2003 (January)and you can see his works.

Going back to the original question and neatly sidestepping any other issues relating to taxidermy, zebra and anything else.....

The sad fact is that there is no mail order compnay in the UK anything like Brownells or Midway or Sinclair or any of the myriad other rifle shooting specialists which seem to exist all over the Land of the Brave and Free. Sure there are specialist outlets for reloading gear but somewhere offering such a range of working parts? For as long as any pressure bearing part of a firearm requires authority from the Police for possession (I paraphrase the convoluted UK firearms laws for the benefit of all here) you simply never will be able to get actions and barrels mail order. Add to that the relatively microscopic rifle shooting community in the UK and you'll find yourself going back to Brownells, Sinclair or whomever.

Tell us what you're looking for and you'll probably be swamped with personal recommendations.

Hello Pete, what I am realy looking for is a die
1/4-30 to make some longer screws for a P17. Could not find them somewhere else. They are on side 139 of Brownells # 54.
I got no answer from Helston til now.
Do you know another place where I can get go no go gauges for 416 Rigby in the UK? We have Triebel in Germany but he is a bit on the expensive side.
For the future I am looking for somebody who makes shotgun actions capable of handling a 4 bore. A.Smith is making barrels, but I could not find an action maker (Philipson will not make them), do you have any idea?
Thank you in advance

Bongo – You could try Ron Wharton (from Rigby). He makes quite a few custom 416 Rigbys every year. I was in his workshop the other day and he has a lot of stuff lying around! He may have a spare gauge. His web site is www.bunduki.co.uk

I'm hoping to make it to Dortmund in Jan.
