I need some tried and true methods for removing various Loctite products. I mean for disassembly, not just cleaning the Loctite off.

Green, 290, Wicking Grade:

Black Max 380:

Red, High Strength, 271

In a word, heat. Pull up the data sheet on the particular product and see what the recommended temperature is for breaking the bond.

Never used Black Max but I regularly use 271 and 609 and it takes heat and tools to break the bond.

Yeah I knew about heat and should have specified that in my post. I know I read somewhere that Acetone or possibly even WD-40 softened various loctite up.

Black max 380 is essentially black Super Glue

Contact the company. I'll bet they know what softens their products.

271 Red breaks down at around 250 degrees F
and 290 Green at about 350 degrees F

Warm them up and let them set for a wee bit then give it a try.

I've never had any luck using chemicals to soften Loctite it has always required heat.

And an FYI

It use to be that locktite was Blue, Red, Green, for low med and high strength. Not any more and not for some time.

There are many grades of the same color locktite around and you can get a grade of Red that is equal to the Green, Both high strength.

So you can't just go by the color you need to look at the specs as Westpac said

I listed the numbers as I know of at least two grades of Green. There is one grade of Green that is darn near permanent. It is Assembly grade.

Well I have some heating to do to take a few guns apart.

Just be careful to keep the heat under 500 degrees.

BTW even the "permanent" green is removable at around 450 degrees F
