I would like to coat my Reminton ADL with a tough, rust resistan or nrust proof coating and one that is very scratch resistant.

What is out there? What are some cost? Pros and cons?

Thanks for any help with this guys.

While it is not a coating but rather a method that changes the surface of the steel, "Melonite," or QPQ, is tough to beat. It is what i would use for soemthing i did not want to or was unable to rust blue. Excellent sctratch resistance, maybe the ultimate in rust resistance, and it is the only thing I know of that may actually extend the working life of your barrel

If you want a matte stainless look, hard chrome is excellent.

I have had excellent results using the KG Industries Gun Kote 2400 series coatings on my rifles. The flat black is the 2401F. They also have the 3400 series ceramic coating in flat black.

Hello ted thorn.

I'm no expert on the matter, however, I believe Cerakote from NIC Industries might be the hardest coating out there... Check it out:

http://nicindustries.com/firearm_coatings.php

That's the coating I chose to apply on my M70 375 Ultra when it gets completed. I'll let you know how it turns out when I get it back...

I like Cerakote. Super tough finish and goes on super thin; thin enough it won't effect bedding. Thin enough it is going, as we speak, on a vernier sight for a long range muzzleloader I have; barrel and front globe sight too since those things are rust machines. Give Eddie Fosnaugh a call. He does good work at good prices and is a pleasure to deal with.

Ted

I have tried the coating methods and they all have there faults.
I have just finished a series of rifles that I finished with the QPQ treatment. This finishing treatment is highly rated by the company's that do it. This is the first time that I have used it and can not say how well it will hold up.
What I can tell you is that when I got the parts back I hung a bolt shroud outside. It has been in the weather for about 4 months. One month in I scratched the black finish off in a spot to bare metal. There is no signs of rust anywhere to this date. Only time will tell.
