Importing rifle stock

Can anyone tell me the specifics of importing a partially shaped rifle stock? I've determined an ATF Form 6 must be completed, approved and a permit issued, and that delivery does not have to involve an FFL holder.
Can it just be sent thru the international mail system like other imported consumer goods, with duty assessed by the post office? What do you do with the ATF permit? Does a customs broker have to be involved?
All this seems totally silly to import a piece of wood, but would appreciate any information that can be provided. Thanks.

No, you need to call the ATF and/or State Department. Or a licensed importer like Simpsons.

I have a real hard time believing you'd need a permit from the ATF for a chunk of wood. It is neither A, nor T, nor F...

Please let us know what you find out.

It only makes sense when you realize that our government tries to make it as difficult, expensive, aggravating, and in many cases impossible, as they can, for individuals and businesses to engage in the firearms trade or to own firearms. I believe that this is all part of the "master plan" put in motion nearly 50 years ago when the late senator Thomas Dodd (D-CT) drew inspiration from the Nazi firearms law of 1938 as he composed our Gun Control Act of 1968. Since then it has been one "small increment" and small "sensible" change after another until we arrive at today's sad state of affairs.

A good job is sometimes just a series of expertly fixed fark-ups.
Let's see.... is it 20 years experience or is it 1 years experience 20 times?
And I will have you know that I am not an old fart. I am a curmudgeon. A curmudgeon is an old fart with an extensive vocabulary and a really bad attitude.
