You should see all of the CNC machines in Jerry Stiller's shop. 8 CNC milling centers, 3 CNC lathes, and 2 wire EDM machines. Of course he has the regular manual machines.

I know there is the X, Y, and Z axis. If you have a 5 axis machine, what do they call those other two axis?

I may be incorrect as I currently only get to stand next to the 5-axis and drool. That and the CAM programming is way over my head.

Basically as I understand it, it depends on what movements and how the machine make these movements. Basically the spindle can move, the table can rotate, or the trunnion (base that table sits on) can swing.

Here are two articles that discuss the differences.

The shown mashine is not a real 5axis, it is what is refered to as a 3+2.
It is a pretty standard 3 axis mashine with a rotary tilt table.
The axis is called x y z, a b and sometimes c

Sorry Chuck. He makes a nice action but he did not have many pictures of the CRF. I would like to see more. But that milling machine was dam sexy. It has water cooled ways and spindle. Top of the line all the way.
