Seems like one of the biggest potential headaches to restocking an M1917 is the angled rear action screw- doesn't that complicate bedding, etc? I wonder if you could fill/blend the existing hole, and then relocate/redrill with the screw vertical this time? Any thoughts?

I have never seen this as an issue. I have not felt it was any problem at all in bedding; it does not pull the receiver if that is what you are afraid of. It is the front screw that is most important and that is tightened tighter than the rear. I think you are making work out of a non issue.

Several gunmakers cut the whole tang off and replace it to eliminate that drop they have and get a straight screw at the same time. Also allows you to use more commonly available mauser bottom metal. Don
