Is there any information out there that shows or explains how you would take a stock that has checkering that is pressed into the stock and cut it to real checkering?

Jim Carmichael's old book DIY gunsmithing has a good chapter on converting pressed checkering to cut checkering. Plenty of pics and info. The book's available used/cheap on ebay, amazon, etc.
