Very Basic (Dumb!) Question

I'm sure my question fits the title!

I need to know what height (.404, .494, or .584) Lyman 17 Globe front sight to buy to mate up with the Lyman 57 SME rear sight on a Swede Mauser 96/38 with a standard military barrel (replacement from Numrich) which I THINK measures ~ .690" where the front dovetail goes.

And I also need same help for a 98/29 Mauser action with a Lyman 57 SMET receiver sight and a 22" long Lilja #5 contour barrel.

That contour barrel is .700 at the muzzle at 27" and tapers back at .008" per inch. I make that a final diameter at 22" of .740" at the muzzle, and the front sight would be dovetailed in ~ 1/2" or so behind the muzzle.

I know this is a stiff barrel in a 7.62 x 39 rifle, but hopefully it'll shoot pretty good.

Can you help me? Thanks very much! Smiler

Regards,

WE

See if this helps you out. Sight Height Calculator. It is gear for barrel mounted sights but you can probably make some calculations and figure it out. Good Luck.

As a general rule, people are nuts!
