I just picked up a Model 70 sporter III today and the bolt is a little sticky. Should I use some fine clovers lapping compound on the races or just cycle the bolt with oil a few hundred times...

I am leaning toward the clovers with a good cleaning afterwards..

Thanks in advance, John

John,

Where is it sticky? At what point during the cycle does it stick?

Save the Clovers for your valves. Find why it's sticky first and gently smooth it. IMO you would be a lot better off just working the bolt........DJ

Bill

It was sticky in the back part of the stroke when closing the bolt. I cleaned the gun with clp and lintless rags and it is no longer sticky. ;o)

The rifle is very nice with the exception of some machine marks on the bottom (unseen) of the safety.
For the money I am very happy. I still need to take it out and shoot it but I am waiting for a scope to arrive.

John
