I really like the look of it and the fact that it uses an original safety. I just don't currently have the facilities to try and make one.

What is the general consensus on the Dayton Traister

I want to keep the original trigger being that it contains the only provision on a '93 action to prevent out of battery discharge.

I recently received my bolt back from James Robert who did a fantastic job forging it to clear a low mount scope and now the safety is really the only major hurdle left to cross.

How much difference is there between a 93 and a 98 safety and could one be converted to the other. I have a Parker Hale extended flag on my 1908

For a flip up safety there's not much difference between a 91 to a 98 including anything in between like a 93 or 96. There may be minor fitting issues as I don't have examples in a 93 or 96.
The 98 i believe was the first cock on opening and the 93 was the fist with a flush mount staggered mag. Mausers only of course

Unless there is a real reason to use one of these flip up safeties I'd pony up and buy a Dakota (PT&G) or a Gentry if you can get it.

I still need to convert my 91 to cock on opening and a straddle floor plate.

Those are both great but the only ones I have found are for 98 actions and they both cost way more than I have to put into this. I sent the bolt off back in March when I was still working.

The Dayton would work just fine and be a lot less expensive if that what you want.

You need to get over the fact of dumping good money after bad into a gun. People do it everyday.

I've got enough tied up in my 1891 Argentine to buy two new mid priced Rem 700 or one Winchester super grade. Will I ever see that money again?? Hell no. But it was my first rifle so I can't let it go.

Thanks! You do some beautiful work if your web site is any indication.

I am just trying to have some fun and hopefully learn a few things along the way.

Yes there is a big difference in the 98 and 93s; the safety shaft is much longer for a 93. Just use the Dayton Traister one.

I got the Dayton safety. It took all of 30 minutes to install and works just like it is supposed to. There are a few more spots & pits to fill with JB weld then shoot the finish on.
Thank you all for the help and advice.

I am really happy with the way the bolt came out.
